Biography
Levente Török is General Music Director of Theater Aachen and the Sinfonieorchester Aachen from the 2026/27 season. His appointment follows a period of rapid artistic development across opera and symphonic repertoire, with engagements at major institutions in Germany, Hungary and beyond.
Among the highlights of his 2025/26 season was his acclaimed debut at Staatsoper Stuttgart, where he conducted Rossini’s La Cenerentola. His longstanding relationship with the Hungarian State Opera continued with the new production of Mozart’s Così fan tutte, alongside performances of Donizetti’s Don Pasquale and Verdi’s La traviata.
On the symphonic stage, he conducted the Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra in its Beethoven in the Park series at Martonvásár in July 2026, with a programme including Beethoven’s Egmont music and the Eroica Symphony. His international engagements also include a return to Spain and appearances in Timișoara, complementing his work with Theater Aachen and the Sinfonieorchester Aachen.
From September 2024 until summer 2026, Török served as Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the North Hungarian Symphony Orchestra in Miskolc. Since 2019, he has been a regular guest at the Hungarian State Opera, where his repertoire has also included Puccini’s Tosca, Erkel’s Hunyadi László, Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream and the Gluck/Strauss Iphigenie auf Tauris.
After winning the First International Conducting Competition in Llíria, Valencia, in 2021, he developed particularly strong artistic connections in Spain, conducting ensembles including the Spanish Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra (ORTVE) and the Málaga Philharmonic Orchestra. Further opera engagements have taken him to the Icelandic Opera for Puccini’s Madama Butterfly in 2023 and to Oper Burg Gars for Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore in 2024 and Verdi’s La traviata in 2025.
Born in Hungary in 1993 into a family of musicians, Török studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. Early professional experience included work at the Vienna State Opera Choir Academy and festival collaborations in Wels and Baden-Baden, where he worked with figures such as Ralf Weikert and Sir Simon Rattle. His subsequent theatre appointments took him to Regensburg (2015–2018), Ulm (2018–2022) and the Mecklenburg State Theatre in Schwerin (2022–2024), where he served as First Kapellmeister.
