
Cellist Guillermo Pastrana is considered one of the most influential Spanish artists of our time. Possessing a beautiful and powerful sound, Pastrana displays originality in his interpretations without abandoning the essence and purity of the music, making him a versatile and authentic performer who connects with audiences in a sincere and direct way. For all of this, he has received various awards and recognitions, such as the Intercentros Melómano Prize , the First Palau de la Música of Catalonia Prize , the Khachaturian International Cello Competition in Armenia , and the National Music Prize ‘ El Ojo Crítico ‘ awarded by RTVE.
A disciple of Ivan Monighetti and Gustav Rivinius , Guillermo Pastrana has been influenced by other great masters and performers such as Thomas Demenga, Wolfgang Boettcher, Maria Kliegel, Raimund Korup, Rafael Rosenfeld, Vladimir Ashkenazy, and Eduard Brunner, among others.
With a universal vision, Pastrana delves into both historical performance practice and newly composed music. He has collaborated with composers of the caliber of Tomás Marco , David del Puerto , Jesús Navarro , Josep Marí Guix Aguilar , and María Eugenia Luc , who have dedicated many of their works to him, and has collaborated with ensembles such as Grupo Enigma and Ensemble Kuraia (Basque Country). He also contributes to the recovery of Spain’s historical musical heritage, as exemplified by his latest CD, which features the first-ever recording and revival of the cello sonata by Joan Manén , a Spanish composer and violinist from the early 20th century.
He has performed in cities and festivals around the world and interpreted the great cello repertoire with orchestras such as the Spanish Radio and Television Orchestra (ORTV), Medellín Philharmonic , Belgian National Orchestra , Chile Symphony Orchestra , Orchestra di Sanremo , Camerata Palatina Vilnensis , Philharmonia Łódźka , Moscow Conservatorium Symphonic Orchestra , Castilla y León Orchestra , Galicia Symphony Orchestra , ADDA Symphony Orchestra , Tenerife Symphony Orchestra , Granada City Orchestra , and Navarra Symphony Orchestra , among others . He has had the privilege of performing as a soloist with conductors of the caliber of Kazuki Yamada , Miguel Ángel Gómez Martínez , Michal Nesterowicz , Alejandro Posada , Michael Schønwandt , Manuel Hernández Silva , Josep Vicent , Aldo Ceccato , Antoni Wit, and Salvador Más , among others.
A devotee of chamber music, Pastrana has performed alongside musicians of the stature of Vladimir Mendelssohn , Gernot Süßmuth , Ivan Monighetti , Daniel Hop , Mischa Maisky , Tobias Schabenberger , Eduard Brunner or Anton Kernjak .
She has made several recordings for RTVE and several CDs for record labels such as Naxos , Brilliant Classics , and IBS Classical, receiving awards and widespread acclaim from the specialized press. Her next recording project will be the work of contemporary composer Maria Eugenia Luc for the Orpheus label in 2021.

Guillermo Pastrana is in high demand as a professor, giving masterclasses in cello and chamber music in various countries. He currently teaches at Musical Arts Madrid and, since 2017, has been a lecturer and assistant professor at the Hochschule für Musik FHNW , Musik Akademie Basel in Switzerland.
Of particular note are the recitals given by Pastrana at the Royal Palace with the Stradivarius cello from 1700 , an instrument belonging to the Spanish National Heritage . Guillermo Pastrana currently plays an Antonio Cassini cello built in 1670.
